How to use the Work-related fatalities dashboard

The Work-related fatalities dashboard shows the number of workers fatally injured in workplace incidents in Australia since 2003. The data includes occupation, industry, age group, location (state or territory), mechanism (such as falls from a height, or being hit by moving objects), and breakdown agency. On the Vehicle Incidents page you can drill down from vehicle category to vehicle type (for example, from 'Heavy vehicle', 'Light vehicle', 'Aircraft' to 'Truck', 'Tractor', 'Car' or 'Plane').

To use the dashboard:

  • Select 'Pages' to access the data.
  • Change data period' to change the timeframe or to switch between calendar and financial years.
  • Click on bars within the charts to cross filter other charts on the page (hold 'Ctrl' to select more than one bar).
  • Use the 'Chart customisation tool' to build your own chart.
  • View the interactive dashboard help video or dashboard user guide.

For an estimate of the number of workers killed in Australian workplaces so far this year, see the Preliminary fatalities dashboard. See our analysis of the latest finalised data in the Key Work Health and Safety Statistics Australia 2024 report.

Note: Worker fatalities are based on small numbers and can be volatile. Safe Work Australia advises caution when drawing conclusions from data based on small numbers. Learn about the data on the Work-related fatalities data page.
